There was never a question about McNair’s heart in the game. Each and every Sunday you’d see McNair out there playing with yet another injury, but he never complained, and always seemed to gut it out.

Injuires for McNair were second nature. An inflamed disk, injured calf, and bruised sternum were just a few of the injuries that kept McNair from being 100 percent, yet he was a gamer, and always did what he could to take the field for the Titans. He shared the MVP awared in 2003 with Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, coming off a 12-4 year in which he threw 24 TD passes.

“We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair’s passing today,” Titans owner Bud Adams said. “He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing.”

“We don’t know the details, but it is a terrible tragedy and our hearts go out to the families involved,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement.

It’s a sad day to see still a young man (McNair was just 36), a father of four, and an all-around good person leave too soon. Thoughts and prayers go out to the McNair family.

News Channel5.com in Nashville had the following on the discovery of McNair: The incident happened near 2nd South & Lea Ave. Police said it looked like a double homicide. A female victim was also found dead.

Police report that McNair, who played 11 seasons with the Titans, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

McNair played 13 seasons in the NFL, the last two with the Baltimore Ravens. He retired after the 2007 season. He led the Titans to the Super Bowl in the 1999 season, losing to the St.Louis Rams. In his career, he had a 82.8 QB rating with 174 TD passes and 119 interceptions.

LenDale White has come too far to blow it now — he promises. Since the end of last season, the Titans running back has remained on a strict diet and been loyal to the team’s offseason conditioning program.

The results have shown up in his shrinking waistline, as well as on the scale — he weighed in at 229 pounds last week. But with minicamps now a thing of the past and training camp not set to begin until July 31, there’s plenty of time for him to balloon, of course. Heaping barbecue plates will certainly be calling his name at Fourth of July cookouts.

“It’s not going to happen,” White said, shaking his head at the suggestion. “I am not going to let it all go to waste, not the way I feel. My body feels good — my knees, my ankles, everything feels great out there. And I am trying to keep it that same exact way. So whatever I have to do, I am going to maintain. And when I check into camp (my weight) won’t be nothing over 230.”

The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract with linebacker Gerald McRath. The Titans selected McRath with their first fourth-round selection (130th overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Southern Mississippi. In 2007, he was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, and followed that honor by earning first-team All-Conference USA recognition in 2008.

From the moment he moved into the starting lineup late in his freshman season at Rutgers, WR Kenny Britt did not miss a game because of injury. And the hope in Nashville is that he will soon be over a nagging right hamstring injury that limited him in offseason workouts. But for the time being, the Titans are being prudent with their first-round pick. Titans head coach Jeff Fisher told reporters that Britt is doing the best he can in coping with the injury. “If there’s frustration (on Britt’s part), it’s just a lack of participation just because he’s dealing with the hamstring,” Fisher said. “But when he’s been out there, he’s picked things up, he’s made the plays that we need to see him make. I think mentally he understands what to do; it’s just having an opportunity to do it.” And when that happens, the way we hear it, Britt’s role in the offense finally could come into focus.

The Titans and rookie receiver Dominique Edison agreed to contract terms Friday. The sixth-round pick became the fourth member of the team’s 2009 draft class to reach a deal. Edison agreed to a four-year deal with rookie-minimum salaries of $310,000 (2009), $395,000 (2010), $480,000 (’11) and $565,000 (’12).

Justin Gage hopes bigger things are in store for him and the Titans passing game this fall. “Just knowing how I finished up last year, I’m just trying to feed off that positive vibe,” Gage said. “I’m looking from day one to go out there and make plays. I’m definitely think I can surpass the last couple of seasons.” Even though fewer passes might come his way because of the additions of Nate Washington and Kenny Britt at receiver and Jared Cook as a hybrid tight end, Gage believes the entire offense, and his own numbers, will improve this year.

A year ago, Dave Ball was a long shot trying to beat the odds and make the Tennessee Titans roster. Now, Ball, pardon the pun, is rolling, perhaps enough to put himself in the running for the starting job at left defensive end. With Jevon Kearse just now back from off-season knee surgery, Ball has been getting time with the first unit at the spot since coming back from back surgery himself this off-season.

Titans running back Chris Johnson is among those who has recently caught on to the Twitter craze. On his account, ChrisJohnson28, the Titans running back is soliciting fans suggestions for end zone celebrations that can rival those of Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco and Buffalo Bills star wideout Terrell Owens. … Thus far, though, Johnson has come up dry in the suggestions received. “I’m going to test out celebrations,” Johnson said. “I’ve gotten some, but I feel like I didn’t get any one that caught my attention yet. I got a whole lot of reaction. It really surprised me, because I just started Twitter week during OTAs, and I’ve already got like 500 followers. It really surprised me a lot. I’ve probably gotten over 20 replies on celebrations and stuff like that.”
