Are The Titans Legitimate AFC Threats?

The Tennessee Titans are currently sitting at the top of the AFC South with an 8-4 record this season and are two full games ahead of the Indianapolis Colts while also owning the tiebreaker. They seem to be a solid team but there are a lot of issues surrounding the program so it will be interesting to see if they should be considered to be a threat to make the Super Bowl on the AFC side.

Are you confident in the Titans this season? Well, make some money betting on some NFL lines in order to make a profit and using some NFL knowledge that you have acquired.

Henry Returning?

Running back Derrick Henry has been on Injury Reserve for a few weeks now with a foot injury that required surgery and has not played since Halloween. However, Derrick Henry is still leading the league in rushing attempts, second in rushing yards, and fourth in rushing touchdowns. There apparently is some optimism that Henry could return in early January if all goes well in Henry’s recovery and that makes the offense better.

In the four games since Derrick Henry officially went down due to injury, the Tennessee Titans have scored 19.25 points per game. Ryan Tannehill has been an average quarterback with a 51.8 QBR and now have both star wide receivers A.J. Brown and Julio Jones listed on the Injured Reserve currently and the Titans hot start has been able to lead the way.

Defense Struggling

The Tennessee Titans defense is not a strength that you would want out of a great football team. Heading into their bye week, they are allowing 290 points this season. In comparison, that is two fewer points than the Houston Texans and a singular point more than the Detroit Lions have given up.

This defense is struggling to force turnovers as they are currently at -7 in terms of their turnover ratio and are not using this defense as a strength. Tennessee is giving up 371.8 total yards of offense per game and that is a little too much in order to be a top team in the conference.

The special teams units are actually one of the better teams as kicker Randy Bullock is 18-21 kicking field goals this season and has not missed inside of 40 yards but has missed three extra points in 32 attempts. Getting some free points will help them if the offense is unable to find the end zone.

The Tennessee Titans are a good football team, but they are not in that upper echelon of franchises right now despite what their record is telling us. They have all of their eggs inside of Derrick Henry’s return at the end of the regular season and that is with everything going right in his recovery. Despite that, Henry needs to ramp up to the point he can take his dominant rushing attack every play and control the game.

The defense is struggling this season and Ryan Tannehill is an average quarterback this season. They are going to host a postseason home game against one of the AFC Wild Card teams and could potentially get the bye as the top seed, but they are not built for success with a running back with all of those rushing attempts under his belt. The Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, and Kansas City Chiefs all seem to have a little bit of an edge over them, so I do not expect a great showing from the Tennessee Titans in the playoffs and maybe win a singular playoff game at their ceiling.

One thing is for certain. Even with low expectations, the “Titans” will always find a way to let their fans down. Just like they did when they were called the Oilers. This franchise is cursed to perpetual mediocrity. Where is Jeff Fisher to coach when you need him?

You can take the Oilers out of Houston, but no one will ever take the Oilers out of the Titans!

  2. Oilers Forever and Ever says:

Another choke by the “Titans.” It’s still not too late to choke your way out of the playoffs and not disappoint the fans like you did in Houston for 35 years.

They should go back to ending the regular season the weekend before Christmas, so chokers like the “Titans” can be home for the holidays.

One more loss and he would break the all-time coaching record for defeats in the NFL. And he’s the perfect coach for an underachieving mediocre team like the Titans. Rehire Jeff Fisher! Make him Head Coach for Life!

  5. City of Houston says:

We already have the texans. do not have room for another set of chumps.

  7. One N' Done says:

Always a disappointment…the Titans suck donkey’s balls every January.

  8. Ryan Tannehill says:

I may be the worst quarterback on the planet, but I still have a hotter wife than all of you! Suck it!

  9. Oilers Forever says:

Tennessee has the Titans, the suckiest football team
They stumble the ball from 20 to 20 like no one’s ever seen
In the air, on the ground, never in control
And when you say the Titans, you’re talkin’ high draft pick.

Cause they’re Tennessee Titans, Tennessee Titans
    Tennessee Titans number 31.
    Tennessee Titans, Tennessee Titans
    Tennessee Titans number 31!

Two, four, six, eight…they’re the worst in the Volunteer State!

  10. Earl Campbell says:

Why profane our fight song like that? At least when I played for the Oilers, we were good!

  11. Carson Wentz says:

Hey, I hear Father Flanagan’s Home for Mediocre Quarterbacks, aka the Titans, is looking for new orphaned middling signal-callers to take in. You had Kerry Collins and then Ryan Tannehill, can I be next?

  12. Another TITANic Flop says:

March Madness is coming! The Memphis Tigers and the Tennessee Vols are in! Maybe one of them will make a run and people will forget about our flopperoo for a while!

It may be January Sadness for Titans fans year after year, but at least there are other sports!

  13. Another TITANic Flop says:

And they both won in the first round! Way to show the Titanic Floppers how it’s done!

  14. Tennessee Deserves Better says:

I agree. Send these losers back to Texas. Maybe San Antonio would like an underachieving football team?

  15. Oilers Forever says:

Now we have a quarterback on the team who knows how to lose to Louisiana-Monroe! I see more underachieving in the Titans’ future. You can take the Oilers out of Houston, but you will never take the Oilers out of the Titans!

  16. says:

The odds are at 1-5 on the most disappointing team in the NFL in 2022 being the Titans. Book it!

  17. TITANic Flopperoo says:

How can they be a disappointing team when we already know they aren’t going to get the job done, because they never do?

  18. Titans FAIL says:

The Titans are legitimate AFC threats every year…

    …TO BLOW IT!

  19. Oilers Forever says:

The “Titans” got blown out in their preseason opener! New season, guys!

  20. TITANic Flop Coming Soon! says:

Will they have a late-season flop and miss the playoffs, or will they get in and then pull a first-round flopperoo again? Stay tuned for the 2022 episode of As The Titans Suck…

  21. TITANic Floppers 4eva! says:

A first game loss to the New York Dwarfs! Maybe the “Titans” will just lay down this season and not get everyone’s hopes up. They can go 3-14 and get a high draft pick and waste it on some other bust of a quarterback!

  22. TITANic Floppers 4eva! says:

Two big L’s to start 2022! Maybe this time the “Titans” won’t disappoint their fans and will just suck from day one, rather than start sucking in the playoffs!

They should just tank right now and go for 0-17! Make some history!

  23. Irate Titans Fan says:

The Titans are legitimate AFC threats to get the No. 1 overall draft pick, it looks like.
