Titans Coach Mike Vrabel Said He Never Thought About Benching Marcus Mariota During Loss to Jaguars

The Titans offense was awful on Thursday night during their 20-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, with quarterback Marcus Mariota struggling all night against the Jags defense.

The Titans quarterback threw for 304 yards on 23-for-40 passing, but just didn’t have a productive game for the team.

Despite the struggles of the quarterback, coach Mike Vrabel said he was not close to removing Mariota from the game to backup Ryan Tannehill.

“Not very. He just can hear the calls when he puts his helmet on,” Vrabel said explaining why Tannehill was wearing his helmet, via the team’s official transcript on NFL.com.

Mariota took the blame for the setback, stating that he wasn’t able to do anything to help the team in the first half when the Jags jumped out to a 14-0 lead.

“You know, I didn’t help our team at all in the first half, didn’t give our guys chances to make plays and I felt I need to go out and just muster something together,” Mariota said.

“I’ve got to continue to have that mentality throughout the season and just give our guys opportunities to go make plays.”

The Titans who are now 1-2 will be back in action in week four against the Atlanta Falcons on the road.
