NFL teams can begin using franchise and transition tags on Monday.
Titans cornerback Alterraun Verner, coming off a Pro Bowl season, is expected to command big money in the open market, Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports.
The bet here is the Titans let him test the market in free agency to gauge his real value. If he gets offered big money elsewhere, he’s likely gone.
The franchise tag would cost the Titans roughly $11.2 million, and that’s a hefty price tag on a one-year deal, especially since they are paying cornerback Jason McCourty an average of $8.608 million per year.
