Former Broncos running back and Super Bowl hero Terrell Davis questions the effort of Titans running back Chris Johnson this season according to Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean.
“When I watch film, I don’t see the effort in him,” Davis said. “And I never, ever want to question somebody’s effort. But … the tape, it doesn’t lie. And I don’t see the desire I saw when he was Chris Johnson, the no-big-contract Chris Johnson.” Davis, who now works for the NFL Network as an analyst, was asked about Johnson as part of the Super Bowl media blitz and his comments have been echoed by other observers. Pro Football Focus ranked Johnson 30th out of 32 running backs in yards after contact in 2013. According to Davis, CJ2K is no longer “willing to bang your head against the wall if the wall is not breaking down.”
Johnson is still young enough to prove that Davis is wrong in his evaluation but his next chance will not likely be in Tennessee. Most NFL sources expect the Titans to cut ties with the running back this offseason.
