Titans Wrap Up Regular Season 9-7 Following Wild 23-22 Win in Houston

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck #8 of the Tennessee Titans calls out a play at the line of scrimmage

A wild finish in Houston ends Mike Munchak’s first season as Titans coach on a high note. It was a season where not much was really expected, but the team did enough to win the finale 23-22 to end the year at 9-7.

Matt Hasselbeck threw two touchdown passes and the team earned their first winning record since 2008. The win came after Jake Delhomme found Bryant Johnson in the back of the end zone for a five-yard touchdown with 14 seconds left on the clock to bring Houston within a point.

With the No. 3 seed in the AFC already locked up and perhaps not wanting to risk an injury in overtime, the Texans went for a two-point conversion.

But Texans tight end Joel Dreessen was whistled for a false start on the first attempt and the snap sailed over Delhomme’s head on the second, with Tennessee recovering for the win.

Chris Johnson ran for 61 yards to go over 1,000 for the fourth consecutive season, and Rob Bironas kicked three field goals for Tennessee.

Playoffs or not, the Titans rallied for two straight wins after a crippling loss to Indianapolis on December 18th.

Nate Washington caught four passes for 92 yards and a touchdown, including the game-deciding 23-yard score late in the fourth quarter. Hasselbeck completed 22 of 35 passes for 297 yards without an interception.

The Titans will sit back and wait to see the football gods will allow them to make the postseason. If not, they will wrap up the year and get ready for the draft and offseason moves after a solid 2011.

  1. Oilers Forever says:

    WAY TO GO OILERS!

Saved the winning season! Even beat the new team in Houston to do it!

And lost to the worst team in the league two weeks ago to make sure you didn’t get to the playoffs this season.

You can take the Oilers out of Houston, but you’ll never take the Oilers out of the Titans!

Peace out! Looking forward to more underachievement in 2012!
