Late Comeback Not Enough, Titans Falls to Jaguars 16-14

Maurice Jones-Drew and the Jacksonville Jaguars took advantage of early mistakes by the Tennessee Titans and ran out to an early lead that held up to a late comeback by Matt Hasselbeck and Kenny Britt to defeat the Titans, 16-14.

Chris Johnson was held in check the entire day as he given the ball only nine times for 24 yards. Hasselbeck showed signs of promise after early mistakes, but could not stop Jones-Drew and the Jaguars.

“We started slow because we weren’t on the same page offensively,” said Britt. “We missed some plays that we’d really like to get back.”

Kenny Britt proved big in two big touchdowns late in the game including a nice fade pass from Hasselbeck to Britt in the endzone to tighten the score at 16-14 with 3:34 remaining. The Titans got the ball back with one last shot with 25 seconds on the clock but an interception from Hasselbeck ended the game.

Maurice Jones-Drew came back quickly after missing the end of last season with a knee surgery. He scored with 6:49 remaining in the quarter to take an early 7-0 lead. With a 10-0 lead, the Titans held off another scoring chance with a solid goal-line stand and forced Jacksonville to kick a field goal and settle with a 13-0 lead.

Several drops by recievers got in the way of a big day for Hasselbeck who went 21 of 34 with 263 yards. He led a late comeback that fell just short as he threw his first and only interception of the day.

Best of luck to the Titans. I believe that your program has a great future with Jake Locker. I have watched Matt Hasselbeck for years and he still wants to force passes into areas where they can be intercepted.

Matt is a nice guy and hard worker and all, he just needs to settle down which is hard for him to do, he does not have the skill set to carry the team by himself. Matt is effective when he has a running game that he can rely on as well as a passing attack.

I am excited to see your future quarterback Jake Locker. In my opinion he was the best QB pick in the entire draft. and he played very well in the pre-season.

    • Hasselbeck has some work to do with the offense though he did find some success late in the game with Kenny Britt. Locker showed some promise in the pre-season and I believe someday he will be the guy, its just not time yet. Cam Newton looked spectacular yesterday but I do agree Locker may turn out to be one of the best picks in the draft.
