Rookie CB Verner Shows His Stuff in Debut with Titans

Rookie cornerback Alterraun Verner had a good night in his pro debut for the Titans as the teams preseason loss to the Seahawks:

Titans rookie cornerback Alterraun Verner made a highlight interception in the Titans preseason opener Saturday night at Seattle’s Qwest Field. Midway through the fourth quarter Verner intercepted a third down pass from J.P. Losman intended for Ruvell Martin, cutting in front of the Seattle receiver and intercepting the pass on a diving grab near the Titans sideline. Verner said he tried to anticipate the play call and the receiver’s route. “I knew it was third down, and they had been doing a lot of stuff at the sticks just trying to get a first down,” Verner said. “So, I was thinking to myself they’ll probably do a curl or something, and I saw them break down. And then when he threw it, I saw that it was an opportunity for me to make a plan so I tried to do that.” Veterans Jason McCourty and Ryan Mouton started at cornerback, but Verner stole the spotlight during the game.
