Two in a Row – Titans Overcome Niners 34-27 in San Fran

This past week Titans RB Chris Johnson said that he felt the Titans could run the table and end the season 10-6. Well, two down, 8 to go. Johnson had another big day Sunday, going for 135 yards on a career-high 25 carries as the Titans moved to 2-6 with a 34-27 win.
In another move forward, Vince Young outplayed 49′ers former first-round pick Alex Smith in the QB battle. Young, getting his second start, was 12 of 19 for 172 yards and ran for a 7-yard touchdown. “There’s a maturing process that takes place when you’re not the guy anymore,” center Kevin Mawae said of Young. “He sat back for a good part of a year and a half to see what a guy like Kerry does, a guy that’s been in the league 15 years and how he handles the success of a 13-3 season and how he handles the ups and downs of an 0-6 start. You can’t help but learn from that.”
The game between the two clubs was a back and forth affair, as the Titans trailed 17-10 at the half after Smith hit Jason Hill with a 12-yard score with :20 left in the second quarter. The Titans scored the only touchdown in the third quarter, as Johnson went in from a yard out to make it 17 all.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Titans and Young and Johnson. The Niners scored first on a field goal made it 20-17. Then the Titans responded with a big 8-play, 81-yard drive that ended with a touchdown to make it 24-17. Then the team got a pick, and kicked a field goal to make it 27-17. They put the game away as Cortland Finnegan intercepted an Alex Smith pass and went 39 yards for a score with 2:51 left to put the game away at 34-20.
The Niners scored with :39 seconds left to close out the scoring at 34-27. The now 2-6 Titans will look for three straight as they host the 3-5 Bills Sunday at 1pm.
