A little trickery went a long way on Sunday night in Canton, as the Titans opened up their 2009 preseason with a solid 21-18 win over the Buffalo Bills in the Hall of Fame game. The trickery came on the Titans first drive, as punter A.J. Trapasso faked a punt, and a lateral and then went 40 yards for a score.
The touchdown was an amazing play for a preseason game, and one has to wonder why the team didn’t hold the play back till it counted during the season? Nevertheless, the amazing play put the Titans ahead 7-0. They went up 14-0 late in the first quarter on their best drive of the night, an 11-play, 71-yard drive capped off by a LenDale White 3-yard score.
The first teamers played well on both sides of the ball, they were able to hold the Bills offense in check, Michael Griffin came up with a big pick of Trent Edwards to stop a drive, and the Titans D-line and linebackers took advantage of the new Buffalo O-line to stuff the run.
Vince Young remains a huge question mark for the Titans. He threw a bad pick on his first drive, but then did rebound to throw a TD late in the first half. He wrapped up the night going 5-for-10 for 39 yards with a TD and a pick.
The man in battle with him for the backup QB spot, Patrick Ramsey, went 8-for-10 for 72 yards. Chris Johnson started at running back, and had 6 carries for 17 yards, with a long run of 16 yards. He looked good on some plays, but got smothered on others.
Bottom line it’s one game, and they won. They will be back on the field for their second preseason game on Saturday at home vs Tampa Bay.
