All season long Titans nay-sayers waited to see if Kerry Collins could win a game if the running game was stopped. Sunday – the QB did just that. After putting up just 20 yards on the ground, the veteran QB took matters into his own hands, as he took control of a situation of the team in trouble. If Collins would have not been able to do what he did on Sunday, the Titans today would be 8-1 instead of 9-0.
Collins threw for 289 yards and two TD’s in the teams 21-14 win over the stingy Bears on Sunday in Chicago. He was accurate most of the day, and completed 30 of 41 passes without a pick and had a QB rating of 108.7. He also had help from an O-line that allowed just one sack on the day, for minus five yards.
What the Titans found out Sunday is if the team has to turn to Collins if the running game can’t get going, they know that he can get the job done. No offense, but it would have been hard to believe that Vince Young would have been able to do what Collins did on Sunday. Young has been known to get a shot like that a few times the past two years, but he was never able to pull it off quite like Collins did Sunday.
With a wide out core and TE core that does not get any credit, and an O-line that is as solid as a rock, the Titans now know they can win in a game where Collins has to throw, and throw often. It’s a great feeling to know the team can play a game that they don’t play their best and win, and for now, Collins should get a big amount of credit for doing what he did vs a good Bears defense.
