When a team rushes for only 21 yards in a game, and their defense has one turnover, their chances of losing the game are very high. The Titans traveled to Chicago to challenge the Bears.. But despite the Titans lack of rushing yards and defensive turnovers, they ended up winning the game.
For almost every single game this season, the Titans have either opened the game by scoring points, or by stopping the opponent from scoring points. In Week 10, the Titans got a 3 and out on their first offensive drive. The Bears then marched down the field and easily scored a TD.
The Titans offense continued to struggle on the next couple drives. The game started to look like the Titans defense would have to provide the win, and on the Bear?s next drive, Chris Hope intercepted the ball when Rex Grossman tried to go for a deep pass. However, this turnover was pointless as Titans FB Hall fumbled the ball a few plays later.
Each team?s strength was their defense in this game. The Titans actually managed two effective offense drives near the end of the first half. The first resulted in a TD pass from Collins to Scaife. The second led to a 49 yard field goal attempt from Bironas. The first half closed as Bironas missed the shot.
The entire second half was a battle of field position. The Titans were the more dominant team, as their offense lasted longer on the field, and their defense prevented the Bears? offense. The Titans scored two TDs throughout the course of the second half and took a 21-7 lead. The Bears ran a no huddle offense which was a desperate move to try to make a comeback with the few minutes left in the game. They did score a TD, (making the score 21-14) but the Bears could not stop the Titans offense from running out the clock.
The Titans running game had its worst of the season. They had a total of 21 total rushing yards. This number pales in comparison to the 150+ rushing yards they have been averaging in every game this season. Kerry Collins was definitely the most important part of this game. When the running game could not lead the team, they looked to him. Collins answered by throwing 30 of 41 for 289 yards with 2 TDs.
The Titans win again and keep their undefeated record by moving to 9-0. Meanwhile, the Bears keep their winning record, but drop to 5-4. The Titans will travel south to Jacksonville, FL to take on the Jaguars.
I am predicting based on the way the Titans are playing that they will finish the regular season by going 13-3. There is a lot of talk about IF the Titans will have an undefeated record this season. Most of their games left seem like they would be easy wins, but there are 3 games which I think the Titans will get a run for their money.
These are against the Jets, Pittsburgh, and the season closer in Indianapolis against the Colts. If the Titans want to remain undefeated, they will need to take their game to new levels to defeat these teams.
