Titans Waive Former First-Round WR Mike Williams

The Titans have had enough of wide out Mike Williams, today they released the receiver who was the 10th overall pick of the 2005 draft by the Lions.  The team had told him that he needed to be in better overall condition for the season, and needed to get his weight under control, and in the early part of camp it was evident he was not in the best of shape.  Williams was about 270 pounds when he signed with the Titans in late November.  He will be labeled as a bust in terms of where he was picked.  He played two seasons with the Lions, catching 29 passes for 350 yards and one TD.

The Lions traded him to the Raiders, but they got rid of him after he dropped a key fourth-down pass in a loss to Tennessee.  The team signed former Jets wide out Chris Davis to take Williams’ place on the roster.  They also inked Jon Vaughn, a kicker to take the place of Rob Bironas, who is down right now with a groin strain.  They waived guard Eric Scott to make room for Vaughn.
