Titans close to signing DT Simon?

The Associated Press reports free-agent DT Corey Simon (Colts) took a physical with theSimon Tennessee Titans Monday, Aug. 20. Head coach Jeff Fisher said he worked out and seemed to be in good shape. The Titans might need another defensive tackle to play alongside the monster they call Albert Haynesworth. Look for them to sign Simon, who was a former All-Pro defensive lineman with the Philadelphia Eagles, not too long ago. A move to bring in Simon to help out the D would be a good fit for a team that needs a stop-gap, run stuffer at DT. He still might have some game left in him and gas in the tank to produce for Coach Fisher and Co. Simon may be able to contribute to a line that likes to underachieve to the max, he would have no probably stepping right in, continuing the trend (Odom, LaBoy, Haynesworth, and Starks). They definitely need some help on the line, but will Simon be the answer? Fisher said he “seemed to be in good shape,” but remember he also echoed the same thing about overweight RB LenDale White ~ and how’s that situation shaping out?

Also, Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt said he’s talked briefly with the agent for DE Simeon Rice, but said the team is “still in the process of evaluating him.” These Titans seem to be looking for veteran replacements for thier young linemen who are not living up to expectations, playing to their talent level, and standards the team has set for them. Look for Tennessee to continue the search, in help of bolstering a defesnive unit that is shaky, by adding possibly both Rice and Simon to the mix. It would not be ground-breaking acqusitions, making the defense a legitimate threat, and a Top 10 candidate, but it will boost a team in need of a lift.
